This is real -time translation for Airpods, that is, a new system with which we can talk with another person who speaks a different languageand understand ourselves thanks to the fact that these headphones will translate what he says, in multiple languages.
Airpods as translators
In the beta 6 of iOS 26, clear samples have appeared that Apple is preparing a new function for the AirPods, real -time translation into face to face conversations. The track comes from an image in the system that shows a gesture to activate it, a double touch or a pulsation in both headphones stems.
This would launch the app transla of Apple and allow two people who speak different languages to be understood at the time. At the moment, everything indicates that the function would be Compatible with the second generation Airpods and the new airpods 4. Of course, the headphones would not do the work, since for the translation an iPhone, iPad or Mac compatible with Apple Intelligence would be needed, so they force us to have a recent iPhone. In other words, the airpods would be the interface, but the “brain” would be on the linked device, so we could not use them alone.
This novelty would fit with the strategy that Apple has with the future version of iOS 26, which already includes Live Translation in the Telephone App, in Messages and in Facetime. Taking it to the Airpods would open the door to use it more naturally in meetings, trips or any face to face, without having to take your mobile all the time.
Bloomberg had already advanced months ago that something like that was on its way, although in the WWDC 2025 Apple said nothing, probably because the function was still in development. Now, with these references in the Beta Code, it seems that the launch could be closer. There is no official date or confirmed languages, but, if the rumors were fulfilled, we could see the Airpods become a kind of “Pocket translator”Discreet and always ready, very much in the line of what many have expected for years.
