If the connected ring market is promising, it is because this form factor allows you to benefit from health monitoring on a more compact object than watches. And currently, the leader in this market is Oura which, for years, has been offering rings full of sensors, as well as an application that is capable of analyzing health data.

Recently, this company launched a new feature that could be revolutionary, since Oura indicates that it is now able to predict, thanks to data from its rings, whether a person is at risk of getting sick. Launched this December, this new feature is called Symptom Radar and is available on the Oura Ring Gen3 and Oura Ring 4 rings. According to the company’s explanations, Symptom Radar is able to detect early signs, in order to warn the user to take proactive measures, such as rest, to avoid getting sick.

How does it work?

“In addition to the 40+ biometric data tracked by Oura, Symptom Radar monitors specific parameters over time, such as skin temperature, average temperature trends, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, variability heart rate and idle time, as well as demographic information such as age”explains the company.

Then, the application tries to identify “deviations” over time in these different parameters to draw conclusions. As shown in the screenshot below, Oura can indicate that there are no signs, that there are minor signs, or that there are major signs. And, for example, if minor signs are detected, the app advises the user to rest. Oura also presents biometric parameters that indicate constraint.

Oura explains that he started working on this technology in 2020. Before activating Symptom Radar on all compatible devices (with a subscription), he first tested the functionality in beta, in order to obtain returns.
