Regularly, Apple releases new updates for its operating systemsamong which is iOS, the one found on iPhones, and which allows them to be given more stability, performance, autonomy and security. Not everyone upgrades their phone on the first day, but if they do, they have something to keep in mind.

And the thing is that the company, once you upgrade the version, makes it difficult for you to return, even though it is possible as long as you sign those versions. However, currently, They have left out iOS 26.2so if you have updated, you will not be able to go back to it. If you haven't done so, you already know that if you go to a more recent one, you won't be able to go back either.

Apple stops signing iOS 26.2

If you updated your iPhone recently, there's something you should know: it's no longer possible to roll back to iOS 26.2. Apple stopped allowing installation of that version after the release of iOS 26.2.1, so those who already updated will have to stay on the newer version.

This happens because Apple controls which versions of the system can be installed on its devices through a verification process. When you stop approving an old version, even if you have the file saved on your computer, the phone will not allow you to install it. In practice, it is as if that version is locked.

For a few days after each update, there is usually the possibility of going back in case bugs or performance problems appear. Many users take advantage of that time if they notice that the new version works worse or consumes more battery. But that margin usually does not last long and has now been closed for iOS 26.2.

Battery settings with iOS 26

Apple does this mainly for security reasons. By keeping the majority of users on the most recent version, you ensure that everyone has the latest fixes and patches against potential vulnerabilities. Still, some users may find it annoying if they preferred how the previous version worked. That is why, since we never know what day they will do it, many choose not to install new versions until they know for sure that they work well, especially on older models, where there are bug problems, reduced autonomy, etc. If they are happy with a version, they stay for a long time, and that is why we do not recommend uploading if there are doubts, since, at least to iOS version 26.2 or lower, you will not be able to go back.

So, If you already installed iOS 26.2.1 and were hoping to go back, there is no official way to do it anymore. Most likely, Apple will continue to release small updates to correct errors, but returning to the previous version is no longer an option, and in the future, it will not be possible with iOS 26.2.1 either, especially when they release iOS 26.3, so it is something that you should take into account, although if you are a long-time Apple user, you would already know this.

And you, do you think that Apple should let us install the one we want? Or, for security reasons, do you agree that it is the development company itself that forces us to be on a certain version to avoid future problems? Leave us a comment with your opinion.
