Over the last year and a half, we've been talking a lot about Apple Intelligence, since it was expected that the company's AI, together with Siri, would show some relevant changes that would impress the user and begin to see all this in a different way.

However, if we compare to Siri compared to a decade ago, we barely see an evolution, and that is something that is frustrating both the company itself and its clients, seeing how others, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, do make progress.

John Giannandrea leaves Apple

Apple announced that John Giannandrea, the boss who led the reins of artificial intelligence within the company, is retiring in the spring of 2026. He will continue as an advisor for a few months, but he will no longer be the one who directs the course of AI at Apple. In his place comes Amar Subramanya, someone with a lot of experience who comes from working at Microsoft and previously spent many years at Google immersed in AI projects and digital assistants.

Subramanya will now work closely with Craig Federighi, who heads all of Apple's software. Your mission will be to take care of important AI projects, how models are trained, and making sure everything works safely and reliably. Additionally, some areas that previously reported to Giannandrea are moving to other bosses within Apple, making it clear that the company is reorganizing everything that has to do with artificial intelligence.

This change comes after a big problem: the “new, super-improved” version of Siri wasn't ready in time. Apple had promised that Siri would be much more useful and natural thanks to Apple Intelligence, something they even used to promote the iPhone 16. But in 2025 they recognized that they couldn't launch it as they had said, and they delayed everything until spring 2026. That generated a lot of frustration, both inside and outside of Apple.

Representation of Smart Siri

With Subramanya coming in at the helm, the idea is to give the project a strong push. Apple wants its AI to advance faster, for Siri to stop lagging behind, and for new features to actually arrive as people expect. In short, they are changing captains to try to right the ship and make up ground on the competition. The company is confident that 2026 will be the year in which Siri finally lives up to what they promised.

We will have to be attentive, since the change could be a very good thing, with a fresh face that gets everything up and running faster, or the opposite, and due to the lack of experience and knowledge of the project, everything has to start again, in a way, and is delayed even more. We will be attentive to this and we will tell you about it.

And you, do you think we will finally see a more human and intelligent Siri in 2026or will we still have to use alternatives on our iPhone to check something other than the time or age of a famous person, which is the little that Siri knows how to do? Leave us a comment with your opinion about it, and the stakes of all this.
