Chinese brands are on the lookout, as soon as Apple releases something new on its iPhone, brands like Xiaomi or Oppo do not hesitate to copy/paste for their own products. One of the new features of the iPhone 16 is the Camera Control button, capable of opening the camera with a press, but also of being sensitive to pressure for additional options (zoom, depth, tint, etc.) . Oppo’s product manager has just announced that an identical button will arrive on the Find X8 series.

Oppo continues to draw inspiration from Apple

In a surprising move (but not at all surprising given the brand’s history), Oppo recently confirmed that it had adopted a flagship feature of the iPhone 16: the Camera Control button. This pressure-sensitive button, introduced by Apple this year, allows users to control the camera in a more intuitive and immersive way. With a tap, it is possible to take a photo, record a video or access advanced features.

In the presentation of the iPhone 16, Apple justified this novelty by its desire to meet the needs of users, in particular by offering a direct shortcut to the Camera application. A choice which seems to have won over competitors, starting with Oppo. The brand has announced that its future series of Find X8 smartphones will integrate a similar button, a decision which confirms an increasingly obvious trend: that of closely following the innovations of the iPhone.

OPPO finds “logic” behind Apple’s initiative

Zhou Yibao, product manager at Oppo, spoke about this choice by emphasizing that “adding a shortcut for the camera is a logical decision”. According to him, this functionality meets strong consumer expectations, which pushed the Chinese brand to adopt it for its Find X8 series. This new button will not only allow quick access to the camera via a double press, but it will also offer the ability to zoom simply by sliding on the button. A feature that echoes the company’s desire to offer a more fluid and practical user experience.

But Oppo doesn’t stop there. Where the iPhone 16 did not particularly highlight the use of this button underwater, Oppo takes a further step by guaranteeing that its button will be fully functional in an aquatic environment. A breakthrough that could appeal to fans of underwater photography.

A copy trend already felt with the Vivo X200

This isn’t the first time Oppo has taken inspiration from iPhone features. The Vivo X200 has already adopted characteristic elements of Apple smartphones. Among these features, we find cinematic slow-motion video capture, compatibility with Live Photos and even an imitation of the Dynamic Island.

Fierce competition but aligned with Apple

Oppo shows, once again, its desire to follow in Apple’s footsteps, even when the latter is criticized on social networks for its reluctance to innovate. While many observers criticize Apple for not standing out sufficiently on a technological level with the iPhone 16, Oppo seems to see this situation as an opportunity to align itself, while offering improved features adapted to user expectations.
