Clearly, Tesla’s Cybertruck scares its competitors. Despite several detractors, we must face the facts: Elon Musk’s very first electric pickup has made a certain place for itself in the electric vehicle market on the other side of the Atlantic. The latest news is that nearly 17,000 Cybertrucks were sold in the United States during the third quarter of this year. Not so bad, ultimately, since this made it the third most popular electric vehicle in the United States during this period.
Obviously, car manufacturers fear the arrival of this behemoth on the roads. To avoid losing face, the Volkswagen group has decided to dig up the Scout brand. If this doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s more or less normal given that it was marketed from 1961 to 1980. Suffice to say that it’s been a while since everyone has relatively forgotten about it… Yes, no, yes , no… It took a few years for Volkswagen to finally know what to do with Scout.
With Scout, Volkswagen intends to focus on SUVs and pick-ups, very popular with American motorists. That, at least, is what their growing interest in Tesla’s Cybertruck proves. Not content with presenting us with two vehicles, Scout and Volkswagen are making them green.
Scout: two electric vehicles announced
For the rebirth of Scout, Volkswagen has lifted the veil on two new models: an SUV, the Scout Traveler, and a pick-up, the Scout Terra. This way, there is something for everyone. The real uniqueness of the two vehicles lies in the fact that they are both electric.
Today, manufacturers are all obliged to take part in the electric race if they do not want to be overtaken by their competitors. As Tesla and its electric vehicles take more and more space on the market, Volkswagen must participate. The German manufacturer is among the largest players in the industry. Unfortunately, its electric vehicles have difficulty attracting motorists. The manufacturer continues to lose ground in the electric car market and has chosen to delay the launch of several models in the face of a stagnant market on the Old Continent. Perhaps the Scout Traveler and Terra will change everything in the coming years across the Atlantic…
Unfortunately, Volkswagen and Scout haven’t revealed a lot of information about these new models. However, we already know that these electric cars promise a range of up to more than 560 kilometers and that they will have Tesla’s North American charging standard. It is rumored that a compact gasoline engine could act as a generator for the batteries and increase the range of vehicles up to 800 kilometers for those who wish.
You will have to be patient to discover the Scout Traveler and Terra in more depth. Already because these two models should first be released in the United States and not before 2027. It is on their success on American roads that possible marketing in Europe will depend. For now, Volkswagen wants to appeal to the American working class, promising a price below $60,000.
